Butte College is committed to helping you complete transfer level math in your first year.

All students have access to transfer level Math; however, it is important to understand which math is required for your program before enrolling.  Our new Butte College Career and Academic Profile gathers information like your high school records, college courses taken, and past academic experiences to make recommendations for your Math and English courses. Even with a low high school GPA you can be successful in a transfer level Math course. Below you will find helpful information to help you understand your Math course options.

Not sure?

Do you have a High School GPA > 2.6 and have you passed precalculus with a C or better?

Yes: Take MATH 30
No: Take MATH 28 or 28s
Civil Engineering Technology Take MATH 20
Drafting and CAD Technology
Business Administration 2.0, Economics

 

Was your high school GPA 2.5 or above?

Most AS degrees not named above can freely choose which qualified math course to take to meet the math requirements for AS degrees

Please consult the catalog and/or academic counseling if you are unsure of the math path for your educational goal. Note: Some goals will require more than one math course.

No CSU transfer or local degree only: MATH 4s or MATH 11 Meets Math requirements for CSU/UC and local: MATH 18s

“With support classes” can be identified by “s” after the number (example MATH 4s). These courses are designed to provide students more direct learning support with smaller class sizes and more contact time with instructors than is available in the traditional non-s version.

All students are encouraged to use Center for Academic Success (CAS) tutoring services. CAS services are free and will maximize the likelihood of student success.
