The Butte College Foundation kicked off the 2023-2024 academic year with a momentous scholarship celebration on Thursday, Aug. 17. The Foundation awarded 200 scholarships totaling more than $121,000 to help Butte College students pay for school and living costs such as rent, utilities, gas and food.
In addition to the scholarships awarded Thursday, the Foundation works with the local community to distribute another $200,000 in outside scholarships and grants to Butte College students annually. All told, the Foundation helps support the educational journeys of more than 500 students a year.
“Many of our students rely on financial aid, grants and scholarships to pay for college,” said Virginia Guleff, Superintendent/President of Butte College. “In some cases, these scholarships are the only support students receive and may be the tipping point that determines whether a student can pursue their educational goals.”
“I am thrilled for the incredible opportunity to impact this many students and so grateful to the generous donors who make these scholarships possible,” said Linda Zorn, Interim Executive Director of the Butte College Foundation. “Together, we are shaping a brighter future for our students and community."
The Butte College Foundation Scholarship application opens each February and is available to all incoming, current and returning Butte College students, including high school seniors. The Foundation supports the advancement of Butte College students, programs and staff through grants, endowments, donations and scholarships.
